New Britain, CT:  Addaero Manufacturing is excited to announce they have signed a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport (NUWC Newport).  The agreement is related to the material characterization of components fabricated via the Arcam Electron Beam Melting  (EBM) system using Ti 6-4.  The testing will be focused on material properties related to applications in the naval environment. “This partnership with the Navy will allow us to demonstrate the consistency of additive manufacturing using our rigorous internal processes and the Arcam EBM system.” says Rich Merlino, President of Addaero. “We view this as a first step to providing the US Navy a reliable platform to produce components for the most demanding environments.”

Addaero has housed the Arcam EBM systems for three years, and employs a team of highly skilled engineers from the undergraduate to PhD level.  Addaero has over 20 years of combined experience with metal additive manufacturing has a proven production ready process for the most demanding environments.

“Additive manufacturing has the potential to significantly reduce costs and timelines for the fleet.  Our intent with this partnership is to leverage Addaero’s advanced manufacturing capabilities to generate the data the Navy and undersea community need to fully understand material performance in an operative environment”, said Captain Michael Coughlin, commanding officer, NUWC Division Newport.
